SCORE

By Giselle Aguiar, AZ Social Media Wiz

In full disclosure, I do not have a crystal ball (I’m not that kind of “wiz”) that shows me what will happen in 2015 in regards to digital media and technology. However, I can relay what I’ve heard some of the experts saying about what’s in the not-so-distance future.

Here are some of the big digital trends to look for in 2015

Social media will get more social – What!? It’s hard enough to be social as it is! But, alas, that’s what social means — being present, being transparent, being responsive. It’s real-time marketing. Here, Johnny-come-lately is definitely too late. If you’re not embracing, adapting, and evolving with social media, you’re going to get left behind big time!

Search will be even more mobilized – Experts are predicting that by the end of 2015, 70% of all Internet search will be done on a mobile device — either a smart phone or tablet. So much so, that Google will start demoting websites that are not mobile enhanced or “responsive”. That means that if you were coming up on the first page of Google, your mobile-ready competitor will come up above you. Look below for related articles….

The “Buy Now” button in social media – Here we have total integration with shopping carts and social media. For a fee, networks like Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest will have a “Buy Now” button where you can buy a product directly from the social network. You literally skip the shopping cart. It’s impulse buying on steroids.

Pinterest – It’s probably going to go public in 2015. They are really making sure they’ve got their advertising act together before their IPO. Pinterest is going to be huge! Read about Pinterest in this article in Forbes.

The Internet of Things (IoT) – Your phone is smart and so, too, will be your home. From smart security, thermostats, lights, garage doors to appliances — everything will be connected and controllable from your phone or tablet. Related article: How Quickly Will the Smart-Home Market Grow?

Mobile Payments – You saw it in Apple Pay in the latest iPhones. Whether it catches on in 2015 will depend on the fundamental change in consumer behavior. That is, how fast consumers start trusting the process.

Wearables – Do you see yourself wearing Google Glass? How about the iWatch? Well, that’s where it’s going. Will we see many in public in 2015? That remains to be seen.

More bandwidth, faster wifi and Internet access – 4K “Big” video – the faster the Internet speed, the more hi-def the videos will become. Fuzzy, slow videos will just not cut it any more.

Too much content – A challenge for consumers will be how to cut through content clutter. For marketers this means they have to put out high quality, relevant, eye-catching, keyword-centric content. Quality over quantity will rule. Delete old blog posts that are outdated. Focus on what’s trending — what people are talking about now.
